(Greenwood, IN)- Saints Francis & Clare Catholic School is proud to announce they are celebrating 10 years of faith, love, and learning. In honor of the 10th Anniversary Celebration, the school ministry will be hosting Mass at 8:15 AM on October 4th. At the Anniversary Mass, the school ministry, alumni, family, and friends will also be celebrating The Feast of St. Francis, their patron saint. The parish broke ground on the 1st phase of the Assisi Center on July 9th, 2006. The Assisi Center would not only serve the new students at the school, but also provide additional meeting space for religious education programs and various ministries at the parish. Saints Francis & Clare Catholic School opened its doors to 34 children in grades K-1 on August 14, 2006. The students attended class in existing parish meeting rooms while the school was under construction. On January 28th, 2007, Archbishop Daniel Buechlien blessed the completed Assisi Center's school office, general meeting space, and eight classrooms. Students and staff moved into classrooms on February 9th to complete their first school year. In 2010, the school built an additional thirteen classrooms, the Gubbio Gym, and St. Clare Hall (cafeteria). An additional renovation to accommodate for more classrooms and combined office space took place in 2013. In 2014, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis approved plans for opening the Early Childhood Ministry. Construction began on the 12,000 square foot center located on the southeast portion of the parish property in the spring of 2015. The Early Childhood Ministry opened their doors on September 8, 2015 and currently serves children from the age of six weeks to kindergarten. Over the last 10 years, the school ministry has grown to serve over 560 students from infants-8th grade. "When the school opened, they started with three staff members. To date, we have 80 employees on staff here within the school ministry, and that number will continue to grow," said Betty Popp, principal of the school. "What makes the school successful is a combination of many of key elements. The leadership of our pastors over the years, the high quality staff, and strong parental support have played a vital role in the growth and success of our school." ###
