Academics

2020-21 8th Grade Class
We pride ourselves is providing a 21st century Catholic education in which skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity are fostered in each child. Our teachers and classrooms provide a nurturing, safe, and faith-based environment where every child is challenged to succeed.
We use a variety of data to layer students and create individualized instruction. Teachers meet students at their level with curriculum that enables students to feel both challenged and successful.
Our teachers participate in ongoing professional development that allows them to stay at the forefront of research-based best practices.
Our students and teachers also use technology as a tool for teaching and learning. From Promethean Boards and Apple TV in each classroom, iPads and laptops in the primary grades, we view technology as a tool to help students think critically and globally.
Starting with the 2011-12 academic year, the State Board of Education adopted the use of a new methodology for determining a school's grade, A-F. Since incorporating this model, Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi School has consistently received an "A" rating from the State of Indiana. We are proud to boast this rating as it reflects our commitment to academic excellence.

Elementary School
Our Kindergarten class size is capped at 25 students. This allows the teacher time to meet the educational and emotional needs of each student as they transition into a full-day structured learning environment. A full-time instructional aide in the classroom provides additional support.
Grades 1 – 5 also have a maximum of 25 students per class. Teachers use small group instruction within each class to ensure all students' instructional abilities are met and challenged.
All students are exposed to our 21st century learning model and will leave the school prepared to compete in the ever-changing global society. All teachers utilize educational assessment tools to gauge individual growth and create Individual Academic Plans in order to personally challenge each child.
Middle School
In August of 2011, the middle school of Saints Francis & Clare Catholic School was opened for grades 6, 7, and 8. Just as in all other grades, we offer a high quality Catholic education that ensures each child is challenged to achieve his or her personal best.
Our middle school provides an opportunity for each student to:
-Grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ
-Become developmentally responsive
-Feel empowered and challenged
-Be offered an equitable learning environment
Our dedicated teachers love working with adolescents; they are subject-focused and passionate; and of course, they are effective at teaching their content specialty. The middle school follows a combination of traditional and block scheduling with the core classes of math, science, social studies, and language arts.
Students are layered according to their individual academic achievement in the areas of math and language arts.
