The Harvest Food Pantry is open each month on:

  • 2nd & 4th Saturday, 9:00am - noon
  • 2nd Wednesday, 10:00am - noon
  • 4th Monday, 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Please refer to the calendar below for exceptions.

We strive to offer an alternative solution to Johnson & Morgan County families unable to provide regular, healthy meals to their families.

One of the goals of the Outreach Commission is to "reach outside" our parish community and assist all our neighbors who struggle. Catholics and non-Catholics alike are welcome to visit the food pantry during operating hours. Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi parishioners donate food throughout the month to help stock the Food Pantry shelves. The Food Pantry offers non-perishable can goods, fruits, vegetables, toiletries and perishables--all depending on the donations that have been received or purchased using Outreach funds.

History of the Harvest Food Pantry

Harvest Food Pantry in Saint Francis Hall Closet 2012

In response to the need to feed the hungry in our community, Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi's Harvest Food Pantry was opened on February 25, 2012 and served 18 families.

Staffed by volunteers from the parish, the pantry is open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month and now provides food items to over 100 families, or 330 family members per month. A majority of the staple food items are donated by our parishioners as well as students in our school ministry. Operating the food pantry would not be possible without the generous donation of time, talent & treasure of our parishioners, students and their parents.

Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi Parish took to heart Pope Francis' 2014 Lenten message, "We are called to hear the cry of the poor". Father Vince Lampert and the SSFC Outreach Ministry chose to fulfill this message by building a stand-alone food pantry in order to better serve the needs of the hungry in Johnson County.

This building project was funded from 2014 Lenten Almsgiving donations received from both the church and the school this past spring. As we move on to this next phase, we are grateful for the opportunity to be the face of Christ to others, sharing food and fellowship with those in need.

Due to the continued generosity of the Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi parishioners and local support, the Harvest Food Pantry was able to be open to the public on two additional days during the month. In November 2014, the Food Pantry began to serve the hungry on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, from 10:00am - noon. In January 2015, the doors now open in the evening on the 4th Monday of the month from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
