Curriculum
Learning without Tears focuses on many skills that are essential for the beginning foundations of starting school. This program has three components; Readiness & Writing, Language & Literacy, and Numbers & Math.
- Reading & Writing Program: Uses music, movement, and multisensory manipulatives to teach all the core readiness skills, including crayon grip, letter and number recognition, number and capital formation and body awareness.
- Language & Literacy Program: Uses dramatic play, singing, finger plays, manipulatives and movement to teach children to rhyme, clap syllables, make and break compound words and identify sounds. The program also exposes children to rich literature to foster the love of reading, build vocabulary, and learn how books work. They learn facts from informational text. The children learn to use new words and develop oral language skills by listening, retelling and narrating stories. They learn that there is meaning in the words that they say and watch teachers write what they say.
- Numbers & Math Program: Helps children build number sense right from the start. We use manipulatives, music and rhymes, to learn counting, comparisons, spatial awareness, patterning, sequencing, matching, sorting, problem solving and even geometry skills. The children also develop oral language that helps them to learn about and express math concepts.
We also incorporate weekly themes to help expand our project play based learning in and out of the classroom. Themes are centered around a specific topic. Once the topic has been decided, many learning activities are planned around it. We can combine Learning Without Tears with our theme to teach a variety of skills/concepts based around the same category, it helps their brains make connections faster.
