“This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” -Luke 22
Beginning the Journey
If you are visiting this page because your child is approaching second grade and you want to learn more about preparing for First Holy Communion, welcome!
We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with you as you raise your child in the Catholic faith and prepare them for this important sacramental milestone.
A Joyful Step in Your Child’s Faith Journey
Preparing for First Holy Communion is a beautiful milestone in the life of a child and their family. At Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi, we are honored to walk alongside families as children take this important step toward full participation in the life of the Catholic Church.
Who Prepares for First Holy Communion?
Children typically prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during their second grade year.
Preparation usually occurs through:
-
Sunday Morning Religious Education
-
Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi Catholic School second grade curriculum
Children who:
-
Were baptized Catholic before age 7, and
-
Participated in first grade faith formation through a school or parish ministry generally follow this traditional preparation path.
Families Joining Us at Different Stages
Every family's faith journey is unique, and we welcome children at all stages of faith formation. If your child did not follow the traditional preparation path, we offer additional programs designed to meet their needs.
