Families do have a choice where their children attend school. You may be one of the many families who can take advantage of the Indiana School Choice Scholarship for students in grades K-12th.
- Universal Eligibility: No more income limits; every Indiana resident K-12 student can apply.
- Application Period: Opens in March 2026 for the upcoming school year.
- What it Covers: The scholarship provides funds (around 90% of state per-pupil funding) toward private school tuition and fees.
- Where to Use: At Indiana Department of Education-approved private schools, including religious ones.
- Application: You apply through your chosen participating school, not directly to the state.
- Special Education: Choice Schools must accommodate students with IEPs/504s by creating a Comprehensive Special Education Plan (CSEP).
- Parent Responsibility: Parents pay any tuition/fees beyond the scholarship amount.
To be eligible, a student must satisfy each of the following requirements:
- Have a legal settlement in Indiana
- Is at least five years of age and less than 22 years of age on or before October 1 of the school year
The scholarship eligibility of children of divorced or separated parents is determined by the parent who has legal custody of that child.
You must submit a completed application by June 1 of the school year you plan on applying for in order to access your School Choice Scholarship for the start of that school year.
