Sixth grade is a big transition year, this is the year students at SSFC begin Middle School. It involves moving from classroom to classroom throughout the day as well as an increased workload. Academic expectations take a leap forward, too. By the end of sixth grade, students will have good organization skills and be able to work independently. They will possess more advanced math skills such as place value and decimal work up to the hundredths place. By the end of this crucial year, they will be able to write clearly, tell a story, provide detailed information, and back up their opinions on the language arts front.
Here at SSFC our Middle School teachers teach students through fun, interactive lessons and activities. The curriculum builds on previous material in math, literature, language arts, science, social studies, and much more.
Students in seventh grade are expected to express feelings, opinions, and facts in written form. Students will delve into literature and civics and may be required to do research projects dealing with these subjects. The main subjects taught are literature, language arts, social studies, math, and science. Seventh grade is also a huge year for reinforcing study skills. In science and social studies, your child will be expected to study for a test at home using methods that work best for their learning style.
Our Middle School teachers will not simply teach facts — they will also teach how these facts carry over into real life. Long-term interdisciplinary units will call for creative, agile thinking. Teachers give students feedback on completed work to insure mastery of presented material. Along with monitoring and evaluating students’ educational, social and physical developments.

In many ways, eighth grade is a year of transition, as students are expected to have mastered the ways of middle school and begin becoming “high-schoolers.” Specifically, they are expected to be independent thinkers and workers analyzing and explaining what they learn in both their writing and verbally. In their last year of middle school, eighth graders immerse themselves in preparation for high school by practicing and strengthening skills they learned in earlier years of middle school while also learning new (and often more complex) skills.
Here at SSFC, the students eighth grade year is a memorable one. Our Middle School teachers will use this last year at SSFC as a great opportunity for students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them not only for high school, but for the real world that they are getting ready to embark. Our teachers believe that all students can learn and have the ability to excel in eighth grade. They will continually challenge students to perform at their highest capabilities.
