COUNSELOR RELEASE FORM BREATHING MEDITATION VIDEO COLLEGE CHOICE 529
SEL HANDOUTS FOR FAMILIES UNDERSTOOD PARENT RESOURCE THROUGH MY EYES

The elementary school years set the foundation for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Elementary school counselors have an impact on these years by implementing a school counseling program and collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe and respectful learning environment.

By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, elementary school counselors help their students achieve academic success, develop an understanding of career opportunities and develop social/ emotional skills in response to issues they face.

Here at SSFC preschool-8th grade students have the opportunity to meet with the counselor individually through referrals.  Referrals can come from the teacher, student, or guardian.  The counselor will meet with students to help them learn coping strategies to be successful at school.

What is Social Emotional Learning?

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is a way to help students develop skills that are essential to their well-being.  The five core components are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and decision making skills.  These are skills that employers state students are lacking when entering the workforce.  When students develop and learn about these components they become stronger academically, socially, and emotionally.  These attributes help develop the whole student.

At SSFC students in grades 3rd-8th have specials class once a week where we focus on these key components.  3rd-5th focusses on word of the month that helps guide them through each component monthly.  These include courage, respect, perseverance, gratitude, honesty, kindness, empathy, responsibility, cooperation, and creativity.  While 6th-8th have sessions that build community and dive a little deeper into the components.

Mental Health Awareness

At Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi School Ministry, we want to remind our students and families how important it is to take care of your mental and emotional well-being. Just like physical health, mental health matters every day. When we talk openly about our feelings, learn healthy ways to manage stress, and support one another, we grow stronger as individuals and as a community.
